    1. When I came back from a 15 days leave, Xeta failed to start. Then Tata service came and jump started the car. Is it ok to jump start an MPFI car? I feel (user manual also says) that start should be from another good battery in case of starting trouble. Service technician said it is perfectly ok to jump start, I wonder!

    2. Now that winter started, its bit cold in the morning.
Xeta is facing some starting trouble in the morning. It doesn’t start on first crank. After 3/4 cranks it starts. Rest of the day there is no problem. Tata service says this is expected from Indica, so no go!! But I am suspecting my battery.

    3. Due to prolonged standing with central locking armed, battery specific gravity had gone low. I had to give the car to TASC for over night charging.
Central locking sensors consume that much power??
Any way, next time while going on long leave out of station, I should disconnect the battery -ve terminal.

    4. Stopping at traffic junctions: trade-off between battery life & fuel saving
Petrol Indica consumes 0.8 litre of petrol per hour at idling rpm of 850.
Assuming Rs. 50/ltr of petrol, idling cost per minute is (0.8/60)*50 = Rs. 0.67/-
For diesel, this cost is only Rs. 0.27/- !!
      3 stops of 1.5 min for 227 days will come to 3*1.5*0.67*227 = 681
Cost of a new battery is Rs. 3000. approx.
With 3 stops, battery life is 2.5 years, so savings on idel is 681*2.5 = 1702.5
With no stop, battery can last 4 years, ie 1.5 years more.
Conclusion: better to idle than stop-start :)

    5. Heater fitment for my GLS?

The heater unit should be the same make as the AC unit — Behr or Subros.

Otherwise there will be a constant problem of coolant leakage.

TASC will be better equipped for this work. Cost will be approx. Rs. 4000/- incl. labour.

There is no ‘pressure’ on engine. The hot coolant is passed through the heater core.

The air from the existing blower is diverted over this core.

The main part is the ‘climate box’ which is replaced with a new one containing the heater core.

The entire dashboard has to be removed to fit the heater unit.

Total fitting time could be 4 hours easily

    6. When I took delivery of my Xeta, I failed to notice that oddo read 127KM, pretty used up demo car??? Carpet at driver’s foot was full of mud even after PDI and wash!!

I could note these only after reaching home (may be I missed all these for the excitement of my first car!!)

Later when I raised this with sales manager, his view was that
      1. The more it is driven, good for me – all complaints were found & rectified.
      2. TASC can easily reset the oddo (is it true?), but they have not done that to cheat customer

I had no option, car was registered in my name and money paid off.

I should get good service in the years to come, that is my only request to TASC :) So far I love my car, service was good, though they were unable to fix few minor issues.

      Cheers

          Comment by ANIL | February 9, 2012

    8. Hi Romit,

Don’t panic, Xeta is a very good value for money car. It’s truly Indian in concept, design and delivery – so customers are expected with some adjustments!!

      Let us analyze your problem.

Right away, do join the Indica user group at User Group at Yahoo
What is the starting climate condition? cold, warm??
Switch on ignition, wait for 10-15 seconds, depress clutch pedal fully, crank
Does it crank or there is no response?
Wait for 30 secs more and repeat, but not more than 3-4 times

Post your results at the earliest to user group, you will find a solution

Most probably, battery might be down a bit (less than 12 volt and/or electrolyte level is low)

Cheer up, you will find and solution and enjoy driving

    9. I bought Indica XEAT GLX (BSIII) from Nawab Motor (Noida) and got in registered in Delhi. for the first 1,000 kmpl it gave me 8kmpl which shocked me, but after that it started with 12.14kmpl and now it is 13.51kmpl.

With God grace, I didn’t encountred any problem with car so far and I had my first service which was completed in 3 hours time.

All in All it is a fine car.

    11. Hi.

I have an Indica Xeta GVS Dec 2006 model. I just love its performance. over 16km/lt on my way to Agra from Delhi. though in Delhi its 12.5 km/lt with AC on.

I want to fit CNG in my car bt I’m very sceptical as Some people whom I know have encountered a major problem in their car after getting CNG fitted in their XETA. Like there is a part which needs a replacement after every 1000kms. One person has sold his car and anothor one is lookung for buyers. Pls guide me.. shud I go for a CNG kit or not.

      Thanks

    12. Hi Guys
I like Indica for its toughness, shape and space. People use to say “Maintaining a diesel car is expensive”. Since, we have Xeta available in Petrol (Twin Sister of Indica Diesel ). Im planning to get one.I am living in Delhi and would run my car appx 350-450 kms in a month. Can anyone suggest, will it be a good car to buy. Its going to be my first car. My no. is 98711-44221.

    13. Hello,

Got delivery of xeta two weeks back. Observed few issues:

      1) Accellerator Operation: Does not reacts to immeidate small touch, needs to press deep and then RPM increases heavily
      2) Noise while running: tak-tak noise comes while running from right side
      3) AC : When I put on AC at speed of 2/3 vehical looses power and feel like jerk, and needs more accellaration. normally without AC goes smooth in 1st/2nd gear without accellaration, but if AC is on it comes to stall

Please suggest me are these the common issues with indica xeta or need further escallation at service centre?

      Thanks

Be friendly to them and try to strike a good relationship with Service Advisor/Sales/Service manager at TASC. It is going to benefit you and you car in long run.

    15. Hi all, i bought Xeta GLS on this Navratra’07. Since then i have driven for around 1800 kms. its drive is just great. In a single stretch i drove to CG from UP (approx 750 kms) it gave me an avg. of 15.5 kmpl with ac on. pick up had been almost good although in Ghats and acute inclines in the hills, i had to put the ac off for better power. In city, i am getting 10-12 kmpl with ac on. is it okay or after few servicings it might get even better?suspension has been just excellent on rough roads. I understand that its the really peppy car for indian roads and that too when drives and xeta lovers like us. by now it has not disappointed me for any reason.

I am planning to buy xeta gls as early as possible, but i m confused abt fittin new xeta with CNG. Is it possible for me to fit CNG latter(say 5-6months) from tata and without getting my car’s warranty void ? Or going for cng @ the time of purchase is a good idea. I m keen on getting CNG so that running costs can be kept low. I final question, how safe is a tank full of CNG in car is?

Trip was fine, except for heavy evening highway traffic and night fog on return.
16Kmpl was the average mileage I could get on HP unleaded with Tata petrol addictive, at 45Kmph avg speed and 20-110Kmph speed range.

Can I buy new battery? and which one?
Can It works, if I recharge battery?

    26. Umesh,

I am sure your car is still under TATA warenty period. You can contact your car service center to get it charged.

If you keep the car battery connected for long with out starting, it will get drained – due to central locking/other connected electrical access & leakages. But after a recharging it will be ok.

It happened to me also. I could not start he car. TASC recovery van came, started the car & took it to service center. They charged the battery at no cost.

Next time when you go, disconnect the battery terminal

Starting problem is due to many reasons, Check your battery first – volt/electrolyte level etc.. How is your driving pattern? more night driving?

Engine noise level is bit more in Indica, that is a fact – accept it

You can talk to customer relationship executive in your TASC, else directly mail to tata customer care – you can find the details at tatamorots web site.

Also refer indica user group in yahoo – it is a good source of information

Rs. 20,000/- WITHOUT ANY KNOWN REASONS DUE TO THEIR HIT AND TRIAL METHOD. THE COST OF THESE PARTS WAS PAID BY THE COMPANY WHO IS PROVIDING EXTENDED WARRENTY EXCEPT THE LABOUR CHARGES WHICH WAS PAID BY ME. AFTER THAT THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR THREE DAY AT SACHDEVA MOTORS THEIR AUTHORISED CNG FITMENT DEALER AND THEY ARE AGAIN FAIL TO PROVIDE ANY SOLUTION FOR COLD STARTING PROBLEM. AND ONE ANOTHER POINT YOU SHOULD KEEP IN MINE MIND THAT THEY HAVE CHARGED Rs. 827/- AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD FOR ANY CNG RELATED ISSUE.
